Your observations here are totally on the mark, Elaine, and my experiences in blogging have been quite similar.
Yes, I too felt Clay Shirky’s piece was excellent. While it’s always possible to nitpick statistics, the truth is, samples that are large enough function according to some common patterns, and I find it very plausible that the weblog world operates according to Pareto’s Law.
Also, you are 100% on target that weblogging is only a drop in the bucket of the techie (and non-techie) world! Sometimes it’s too easy to forget that there still are folks who don’t use computers, much less write ejournals.
