Birds of different feathers flock together at the pond outside my building. Two white little egrets, lots of geese, and usually several duck families. I noticed that they’re at the pond in the park in the morning, come here for lunch, and head back to the park for the afternoon. All together. They share the swampy pondside without a squabble. Hang out, together, in the noon sun, preening, wading, snoozing. The egrets usually stand next to each other, taking it all in.
I will miss them when the snows come. Miss their reminder that it’s possible. As my mother says, you can learn a lot from birds.
